Alison Thorne

Democratic Candidate for Colonie Town Justice

Alison is a former Albany County prosecutor and currently holds the position of Assistant General Counsel at the Public Employees Federation, AFL-CIO.  Throughout her career, whether working directly in public service or representing those in the field, Alison has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to serving the public.  Her dedication to public service, combined with her extensive experience, makes her an excellent candidate for Colonie Town Justice.

About Alison

I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Colonie Town Justice! As someone who grew up in the Town of Colonie and now raises my family here, this community holds a special place in my heart.

It was during my junior year at Shaker High School, when I took a class that introduced me to the law, that I first realized my passion for justice. This sparked a journey that has led to nearly 20 years of legal experience.

Alison attended the night program at Western New England University School of Law. While attending school, she worked during the day for James E. Long, Esq. in Albany and then traveled to Springfield, MA for her classes. She graduated in 2005.

Experience

I started my legal career in the prestigious position of Appellate Court Attorney at the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department.

Additionally, I worked as an Assistant District Attorney at the Albany County District Attorney's office, where I handled a wide range of cases, including felonies, misdemeanors, and vehicle and traffic matters.  I was assigned to various courts across Albany County including County Court, City Court and local town and village courts. I also handled numerous appeals before the Appellate Division. Further, I was assigned to the Special Victims Bureau where I prosecuted domestic violence, criminal contempt, sexual assault and elder abuse cases.

Today, I serve as Assistant General Counsel at the Public Employees Federation, AFL-CIO (PEF), where I protect the rights of those in public service. PEF represents over 54,000 members statewide.

As Colonie Town Justice, I will bring my legal expertise, community-driven values, and dedication to fairness to every case I hear. I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to give back to the community that has given me so much.

I look forward to serving the residents of the Town of Colonie.
